For anyone who has been living under a rock for the last few days this may come as a surprise to you but most of New England was rocked by massive floods. Vermont it looked like took the worst of the flooding and here in Montpelier was no different. Now I want to put all of my Chef Fans minds at rest by saying that I was one of the VERY lucky ones to have had nothing happen to myself. I was able to stay safe and dry and was in no real danger of anything happening to me.
The rest of the state and even parts of the town itself where not so lucky. They had to evacuate everything south of Elm and School Streets because they thought it would be flooded. (Elm st is the street right behind NECI on Main) Every building who butted up to the river was pumping the basements like crazy all day and night trying to prevent any major damage. The School was able to get away almost “scott free” and will be open as normal tonight. The rest of the state didn’t do nearly as well.
Just to show how much water we had coming through the town here are a few pictures.
This is from about 4pm that night
This was from about 8pm, and while I didn’t get a picture of it by about 9:45 the water was about 5 inches from the top of the bridge you see in that picture. Last but not least is a picture of the main river that runs just outside of town and that you have to cross over in order to get into town.
This was about 6pm on Sunday and in case you can’t tell that is only about 4.5 feet from the banks…
As I said I am perfectly fine and was lucky enough to suffer no loss or damages. Until next time Chef Fans stay dry and warm…

As Mom will tell yiou, I’ve called her several times, as Gpa and I have been watching the news an knew there was a lot of water in Vermont. I wanted to make sure you were okay. I’m sure the school would be telling everyone to evacuate if necessary. Just glad you are okay. Love Gma
We were very lucky, weren’t we? Glad they prevented too much damage to the basement! I was going to walk over today to check it out but forgot. You honestly wouldn’t even know a flood had passed the way the sun is shining.
Thanks for the pics! Visuals always helpful to those of us who’ve been to the area.
