Arabic- Baklawa- (Phyllo Nut Dessert)

Ingredients:

       Syrup

2 ½ cups                      Sugar

1 ¼ cups                      Water

2T                                Lemon juice

tt                                  Orange blossom or rose water

1#                                Phyllo

6oz                              Butter

1#                                Pistachios or walnuts

 

Procedure:

  1.  Combine syrup ingredients and cook until nape’
  2. Season with Orange or rose water and cool mixture
  3. Butter a baking dish
  4. Prepare phyllo by brushing each sheet with butter and lining the baking dish allowing the excess to hang over Use half the sheets for the bottom layer
  5. Spread nuts evenly
  6. Top with remaining phyllo and brush with butter
  7. Cut diagonal parallel portions 2 inches apart
  8. Bake in a 350 degree oven for 30 minutes
  9. Remove from oven and pour syrup along the cut lines
  10. Allow to cool and reestablish the cuts to portion the baklawa
