Gajar Raita (Yogurt with Carrot and Golden Raisins)


1 ¼ cup                       Plain Yogurt

½ teaspoon                  Sugar

1 teaspoon                   Salt

Pinch                           Cayenne Pepper

1 each                          Carrot  peeled and coarsely grated

1 tablespoon                Vegetable Oil

½ teaspoon                  Cumin Seeds

¼ teaspoon                  Yellow or Black Mustard Seeds

2 tablespoon                Golden Raisins


  1. Beat yogurt until smooth and creamy.
  2. Add sugar, salt, cayenne, and carrot.  Mix.
  3. Heat oil.  Put in cumin and mustard seeds.  As soon as mustard seeds begin to pop, add raisins.
  4. Stir once and add to yogurt.
  5. Mix well.
